A meta-analysis of the resuscitative effects of mechanical and manual chest compression in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients

Objectives

To evaluate the resuscitative effects of mechanical and manual chest compression in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

Effectiveness of Prehospital Dual Sequential Defibrillation for Refractory Ventricular Fibrillation and Ventricular Tachycardia Cardiac Arrest

[Awaiting full text PDF]

Objective

Dual sequential defibrillation (DSD) – successive defibrillations with two defibrillators – offers a novel approach to refractory ventricular fibrillation and tachycardia (VF/VT). While associated with rescue shock success, the effect of DSD upon OHCA is unknown. We evaluated the association of DSD with survival after refractory VF/VT OHCA. Effect of a Strategy of a Supraglottic Airway Device vs Tracheal Intubation During Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest on Functional Outcome: The AIRWAYS-2 Randomized Clinical Trial

Importance

The optimal approach to airway management during out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is unknown.

Objective

To determine whether a supraglottic airway device (SGA) is superior to tracheal intubation (TI) as the initial advanced airway management strategy in adults with nontraumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. A Randomized Trial of Epinephrine in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest

Background

Concern about the use of epinephrine as a treatment for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest led the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation to call for a placebo-controlled trial to determine whether the use of epinephrine is safe and effective in such patients.
